“I am not feeling any added pressure. I feel exactly the same as I do before any other one of my fights,” the twenty year old super featherweight Emilio Bojorquez shares as he wraps his hands in preparation for another session with his life long trainer Pedro Moran Sr., at the municipal gym in the heart of Tijuana, MX, “but now that I think about it. I am actually excited to show the boxing fans out there what I can do against this caliber of opponent.”
The opponent that Bojorquez, a native of Navajoa, MX but residing in this border town since an early age, speaks of is Arturo “Aguilita” Valenzuela. A veteran of thirty two fights with a record of twenty wins against eleven losses and with seventeen of those wins coming inside of the distance. Bojorquez who hold a record of 9-1, 7KO, the difference in experience is not lost on Emilio “I know that he is a hard hitter and that he can take a punch. I expect a tough fight but I am going to try to end it early. That is what I am training for but I can go the six rounds. I know that he has a lot of experience, a lot more than me. But I am training hard to come out of the bout with my hand raised.”
Bojorquez faces Valenzuela in the semi main event of Bobby D. Presents/Top Shelf Promotions’ “Return to Glory” fight card being held at the 4th and B in downtown San Diego on July 24th. “I want to show with this fight who I am, that when I am well prepared I can face any one of my caliber or better. I can’t say that I am ready for a world title but I know that I am on the right path to one.”
Valenzuela, who is coming off a unanimous decision loss to Aaron Garcia on May 29th, has faced a vast array of fighters such as Frankie Archuleta, Fernando Beltran Jr., and Mark “Too Sharp” Johnson and at one point held the NABA bantamweight title and has been in between the ropes for a total of 160 professional rounds compared to a total for Bojorquez of 22. Bojorquez, a three time Mexican national amateur champion and two time state champion, is on a KO streak with his last five bouts ending in such fashion. In his last bout, he stopped Cesar Garcia of Ensenada in the 1st round.
“I’m going to attack him from the first bell. I am just going to go after him, hitting him with all the punches, hooks, upper cuts, straight rights, I am ready,” Bojorquez states excitingly. “After this fight, I am not sure what is next. I have been concentrating on this fight. I want to win this fight for my people, for my family, for my team and my future baby that is on its way.”
