2012 California Boxing Hall of Fame inductee Bobby DePhilippis with his promotional company, Bobby D. Presents, in association with Jorge Marron Productions and A & T GYM returns to San Diego’s home of professional boxing, the Four Points by Sheraton Hotel in Kearny Mesa, to once again showcase a night of action billed “Champions of Tomorrow” on Thursday, June 28th. In the main event, hard hitting Tijuana light welterweight Emilio Bojorquez (20-2, 14KOs) is looking to bounce back from only his second professional loss to take on the vastly more experienced IBA Light Welterweight world champion Silverio “Chamaco III” Ortiz (26.13, 12KOs) of Merida, Mexico, in a ten round clash.
In his last bout in April in front of his home town crowd in Tijuana, the popular Bojorquez got caught after dominating the action for the first six minutes and suffered a TKO. Instead of taking on a soft touch like many up and coming prospects, Bojorquez is facing the tough as nails Ortiz who is on a six win streak including a decision over south American Fernando Angulo, a knock out of veteran Efren Hinojosa and ruining highly touted Mahonri Montes’ undefeated record by handing the Los Mochis fighter his first loss. Ortiz has faced such world class level opposition as former champions Marcos Maidana and David Diaz as well as former title challenger Herman Ngoudjo.
Bojorquez is a recognized Baja California amateur star with over one hundred bouts and several city, state and national titles under his belt. After suffering his first loss in only his fourth professional bout, Bojorquez went on a tear with seventeen straight wins, twelve of them inside the distance. Now Bojorquez looks to get back in the win column by facing his toughest opponent on paper.
In the co-main event, San Diego’s undefeated light welterweight Adrian Vargas (7-0-1, 5KOs) is featured in a six round scheduled fight. Pro since early ’11, Vargas has been kept active with his next bout being his fourth of the year. So far in 2012 Vargas is 2-0-1, 2KOs, with his only blemish being a four round draw versus former amateur rival Emmanuel Robles. Vargas is scheduled versus the always dangerous TBA.
In other action, newly signed heavyweight hope Marc Ward, of Los Angeles by way of Cincinnati Ohio, will be making his much anticipated professional debut against Larry Ward (0-1, 0KO) of Stockton while Ulyses Sierra of San Diego will do the same in a super middleweight four rounder against a rival to be announced.
The Four Points by Sheraton Hotel 8110 Aero Drive San Diego. The doors to this all age’s event open at 6:30pm with the first punch thrown at 7:30pm. Food and drinks will be served and plenty of free parking is available.
