Erik Morales’ emergency surgery was a big success after several small stones were removed from his gall bladder. Due to this unforeseen emergency, Morales is being forced to withdraw from his scheduled fight with Danny Garcia on January 28, 2011. Golden Boy Promotions made it official today, December 27th.
Word was that an opponent was being sought for Garcia in hopes of saving the card set for the Reliant Arena in Houston, Texas. Scheduled for the main event is James Kirkland versus Carlos Molina. The doubleheader is to be broadcast on HBO’s “Boxing After Dark”. Humberto Soto was offered to take Morales’ place but Soto declined taking on the unbeaten fighter.
Golden Boy also stated that with out Morales, who was expected to bring in the largely hispanic audience in Houston, the entire fight card might just be postponed until February 18th.
Under doctors orders, “El Terrible” has to break camp for 2 weeks.
I’m glad to see Morales back. I like how hes relaxed and patient in his comeback.
