Tijuana favorite David “Morita” De La Mora (23-1, 16KOs) will return to the ring once again on Saturday, December 3rd, in the semi-main event of Baja Boxing’s “Homecoming” scheduled for the Ernesto Ruffo Appel Gymnasium in Rosarito, Mexico, and broadcast live in Mexico by Televisa. In the main event, super lightweight Antonio “Kañitas” Lozada Jr. (24-1, 21KOs) will take on undefeated Cesar “Dolar” Chavez (17-0, 7KOs) in a ten rounder.
De La Mora is looking to challenge for another world title soon but first must take care of the dangerous knock out artist Eddy Julio (13-2-1, 11KOs) of Colombia in a ten round super bantamweight contest.
“I know that I am going against a tough opponent with a hard punch but my aim is set for another world title challenge,” De La Mora stated recently. “I want another fight against Kameda or against ‘Cuatito’ Ruiz. I think a fight against Jorge Arce, the new bantamweight WBO champ, in Tijuana would be very interesting. I feel that I am in that world level.”
Last August 31st, De La Mora traveled to Japan to challenge the WBA bantamweight champ Koki Kameda who he came up short via unanimous decision but only by one, two and three points respectively on the judge’s scorecards, a result that was deemed controversial.
“I took that outcome as an experience builder, I was satisfied with my performance,” De La Mora said of his first world title bid. “A lot of people saw me win and we are talking about a world champion. First I have to defeat Julio to close out the year and in early 2012 I would look for another title challenge.”
De La Mora is trained at the CREA gym by Romulo Quirarte who expects to see a quick, strong and above everything else, a mentally recuperated De La Mora in the ring on December 3rd.
In Julio, “Morita” will face a strong fighter who can change or even end any fight at a moment’s notice because of the power he possesses in either fist, a fact that De La Mora knows all too well, “Julio has eleven knockouts in thirteen wins, he only has sixteen pro fights but he had a great amateur career. His two losses were against good opponents with experience like Jose Arboleda and the former world champion Ricardo Cordoba. He is a tough Colombian, a strong one. I know this will not be an easy fight but I am prepared mentally and physically to walk away with the win.”
