Tijuana’s Baja Boxing led by Antonio “Cañas” Lozada has a blockbuster fight card set for Saturday, September 3rd, at the Centenario Stradium in Los Mochis, Mex. In the main event, three time world champion Humberto “Zorrita” Soto (56-7-2, 32KOs) will make his debut in the junior welterweight division versus former lightweight champion Jose Alfaro (25-7, 22KOs). The bout will be televised live in Mexico by Televisa and on the net by the World Boxing Council.
Two FECARBOX titles will be in play during the fight card with Tijuana’s own Juan Carlos “CheChe” Lopez (20-0, 18KOs) facing the rugged and experienced Carlos Urias (44-26-1, 33KOs) of Los Mochis for the vacant junior welterweight version while unbeated Julio “Polito” Ceja (15-0, 14KOs) versus Alejandro “Terrible” Morales (12-0, 7KOs) for the super flyweight strap.
Also featured on the card is Antonio “Cañitas” Lozada Jr (23-1, 20KOs) who makes his return to the ring after suffering his first loss in his bid for the WBC Silver junior welterweight title earlier this year versus hard hitting Roberto “Massa” Ortiz. Lozada Jr. will face ex national champion Joel “Dinamita” Juarez (30-17-2, 25KOs) in an eight round scrap.
The bout will mark a new beginning for Lozada Jr. as he climbs into the ring for the first time with a loss on his ledger and a new corner in Romulo Quirarte of the CREA gym in Tijuana. Quirarte along with his two sons Roberto and Romulo Jr. work the corner for most of Saturday night’s fighters including Soto, Lopez and Marvin Quintero. They also train WBC Silver lightweight champion Antonio DeMarco and recent title challenger bantamweight David De La Mora.
“I am going to come back with more motivation. In the fight that I lost versus ‘Massa’, he caught me with a great punch and I couldn’t react,” Lozada Jr. said recently. “For this fight I am going to be ready physically and mentally and ready for anything. The goal is the same, to capture a world title.”
Another Tijuana fighter making an appearance on the card is southpaw Marvin Quintero (22-3, 18KO’s) who faces Victor “Polillas” Dominguez (12-4, 9KOs) in a ten round lightweight tilt. At super bantamweight, two-time amateur national champion Jorge “Tremendo” De Alba (7-0, 5KOs) will face Cesar Rendon for a scheduled six rounder while Jesus “Chino” Badillo (5-0-1, 3KOs) will go against Tadeo Cerecer for four rounds in featherweight. Both De Alba and Badillo are also from Tijuana.
From nearby Rosarito, KO artist Enrique Tinoco (4-0, 3KOs) will be tested by Jonas Olivas of Guasave, Mex, in a four round bout in the 130 lbs. division.
Other Tijuana fighters getting some action this weekend but much closer to home in Mexicali, Mex, are bantamweight Jose Cayetano, welterweight Rodrigo Juarez and from Ensenada, Jonas Salvatierra and Christian Zavala of Rosarito.
The undefeated Cayetano (10-0, 4KOs) will go after Ruben “Canelito” Tamayo (17-2, 13KOs) in a tough eight rounder while Salvatierra (1-0. 1KO) will look to keep his knock out streak alive versus Christian Zavala who will make his pro debut.
Juarez (20-13, 14KOs) will be in the semi main event of the Zanfer Promotions presented event at the Foro Promocasa when he faces the son of former multi-time world champion Jorge “Maromero” Paez, Jorge “Maromerito” Paez Jr (28-4-1, 17KOs) in a ten round welterweight fight.
In the main event, Omar “Businessman” Chavez (26-0-1, 19KOs) will go against Alberto “Mosca” Martinez (15-1, 10KOs), also in a ten round clash.
It is rumored that if Chavez and Paez Jr. win their respective bouts, they will face each other next.
