“SD Kid” Martin Debuts with Top Rank!

Christopher "SD KId" Martin

Undefeated local favorite super bantamweight Christopher Martin (23-0-2, 6KOs) of San Diego, CA, will make his Top Rank Promotions debut on Saturday, October 1st, on the under card of Toshiaki Nishioka-Rafael Marquez WBC super bantamweight title bout at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Fox Sports will televise the card.

The world ranked Martin will be facing the battle hardened Jonathan Arias (16-6, 9KOs) of Mexicali, Mexico. The twenty-seven year old Arias is a world tested fighter who has faced the likes of Charles Huerta, Joksan Hernandez and Abner Mares. Arias owns wins over Francisco Arce, Jorge Arce’s younger brother, and the very tough Giovanni Caro. In his last bought in August, Arias stopped Mauro Becerra in two.

Martin is best known for his upset over the then highly touted Chris Avalos in August of 2010 on a Showtime “ShoBox” telecast. The quick fisted Martin dominated most of the ten round bout but despite of that, only walked away with a split decision. Since then, Martin has captured the WBO NABO 122 lbs. title in a close win over the aforementioned Charles Huerta and in his last outing, won an easy ten round decision over Jose Silveira.

“I have been training hard since I was told of this fight,” Martin said. “I want to put on a great performance and really show my skills especially since this fight will be in Las Vegas, a city I have never fought in. I’m ready for this fight and anything that comes after.”

No word yet if Martin’s bout will be televised.
