After talks with fellow three time world champion Juan Manuel Marquez went to the wayside, Erik “Terrible” Morales (51-6, 35KOs) has come to terms with KO artist Marcos Maidana (29-2, 27KOs) for Saturday, April 9th, from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, NV. The bout will be promoted by Golden Boy Promotions and it is rumored it will be the for the interim WBA super lightweight belt.
After more than a two year hiatus, Morales of Tijuana, MX, made a comeback early last year and has gone 3-0, 1KO. In his last outing last December, Morales struggled at times to defeat late sub Francisco Lorenzo via unanimous decision in his hometown. Maidana jumped on the boxing radar after stopping Victor Ortiz at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, CA, in what was supposed to be Ortiz’s coming out party. In his last bout, Maidana was in the losing half of 2010’s Fight of the Year when he battled Amir Khan late last year.
The thirty-four year old Morales is in his quest for that coveted fourth titles in as many divisions to become the first Mexican-born fighter to achieve the feat.
