The world ranked and experienced Ricardo “Piolo” Castillo is convinced that he can not let his next opportunity go to waste when he faces the undefeated and WBC #2 ranked featherweight Juan Carlos Burgos of Tijuana, MX, this Saturday night in Guadalajara, MX.
Castillo of Mexicali, MX, by way of Empalme, MX, arrived to Guadalara earlier this week with his trainers Roberto Quirarte of the CREA gym and Pedro Morquecho.
“I have seen Burgos fight about two or three times but I have never really paid attention,” Castillo stated regarding his next opponent.
Roberto Quirarte does know Burgos since his amateur days.
“He is a tough difficult fighter but he is not invincible,” Quirarte stated. “In the amateurs he fought Antonio DeMarco and DeMarco hurt him.”
For Castillo (38-7-1, 25KO), who has fought for a world title twice, this would be his first fight of 2010. In his last bout, he challenged another Tijuana fighter Cristobal “Lacandon” Cruz for the IBF featherweight title but after an unintentional head butt in which Cruz suffered a cut, the bout was judged a technical draw.
Cruz since then has lost the title to Orlando “Siry” Salido of Ciudad Obregon, MX.
“I trained for three weeks in Mexicali and spent some time in Tijuana so I am ready,” Castillo, who is the younger brother of Two time lightweight champion Jose Luis Castillo, stated. “Thanks to Mr. Morquecho I am in great conditioning and I feel strong. My plan is to pressure Burgos from the first round. I won’t let him rest.”
The Burgos-Castillo twelve round bout with be an eliminator in the featherweight division.
