Hector Velazquez to Challenge for Title Once Again!

The higly experienced Hector Velazquez (51-14-2) of Tijuana, MX, is in the final state of his preparation for his challenge of German Vitali Tajbert (19-1, 6KO) for the WBC’s super featherweight title at the Stadhalle, Rostock, Meclenburg-Vorpommernal in Germany on Saturday, May 22nd.

Tajbert captured the title when he defeated Humberto “Betillo” Gutierrez of Los Mochis, MX, late last year also in Germany. his bout against Velazquez will be his first defense of his title. The title was previously held by Humberto “Zorrita” Soto, the now 135 lbs. champion.

Velazquez has been training under the watchful eye of his trainer Ricardo “Cheto” Torres at the “Chetos” Gym near the San Diego-Tijuana border. Juan Carlos Burgos, Enrique Colin, Fernando Vargas and Alejandro Lopez have been helping him as sparring partners.

The Tajbert-Velazquez championship bout will be the semi main event to a WBA heavyweight elimination bout between Ruslan Chagaev (25-1-1, 17KO) versus Kali Meehan (35-3, 29KO).
