Undefeated in seventeen fights and with fifteen of his wins coming from the short route, Arturo “Fuerte” Badillo will be facing his toughest challenge to date when he faces Ronald “Indio” Barrera of Colombia for the WBC Fecarbox flyweight title as part as of the debut fight card of Baja Boxing on Saturday, April 10th in Tijuana, MX.
In the last two years, Badillo has battled in ten fights and only one, against Javier Gallo in June of ’08, went longer than five rounds. He knocked out Gallo in six.
With power in both fists, “Fuerte” must look for much more to defeat Barrera who although young, Barrera is twenty-five and has much more experienced than Badillo with six years and thirty-five fights as a professional.
Barrera has lost seven fights in his career against twenty-six wins and two draws with sixteen knockouts. Barrrera has only been stopped twice but they were in world title challenges.
In total, Barrera has disputed a world title four times, in 2006 against Yutaka Niida, in 2007 versus Ivan Calderon, and twice in 2009 against Raul Garcia and Carlos Reveco. Barrera has been crowned Colombian national champion three times in the strawweight, jr. flyweight and flyweight divisions. Barrera has also been involved in two elimination bouts and in one international title fight.
A tough challenger, Barrera lost to Yutaka Niida in 2006 in Japan by only two points in two of the official scorecards while in 2007 lost a split decision to Ivan Calderon in Puerto Rico losing again by two points on two of the scorecards while winning the third.
Also featured on the Baja Boxing April 10th fight card will be Antonio Lozada Jr who will be facing Henry Aurrad for the WBC jr. lightweight Fecarbox and David De La Mora who will be facing Jovanny Soto for the bantamweight version.
