In the fight of the night, David “Flecha” Gaspar retained his USNBC super flyweight title against the tough challenge of Tijuana, MX’s Juan Luis “Perla Negra” Hernandez last night at the Mariano Matamoros Gym in Tijuana, MX.
According to ringside reports, the bout began even enough with both fighters finding difficulty getting the best of each other. Heranandez seemed to have a set strategy and was having success inplementing while Gaspar landed the harder punches although missing many.
Hernandez seemed to be in control through out the bout until the sixth round when Gaspar began to land more effectively. In the eight round, Hernandez took back the control and seemed to be cruising to a tough but defining win when near the end of the round Gaspar connected and Hernandez was sent down hard to the canvas. Hernandez was not able to beat the count and the ringside physician was needed.
Official time was 2:59 of the eighth round.
With the win Gaspar keeps his title and goes to 13-2-1, 8KO while Hernandez drops to 15-3-1, 9KO.
In the semi main event, local super featherweight Omar Estrella (11-2-2, 7KO) cruised to an easy win, stopping Juan Manuel Arellano (27-30-1, 21KO), also of Tijuana, in the second round.
Tijuana’s Jorge Silva (9-1, 8KO) stopped Juan Manuel Ruiz (1-6, 1KO) of San Luis Rio Colorado in a jr. welterweight bout.
Bantamweight Ivan Morales (2-0, 2KO), younger son of the Morales clan which includes Erik and Diego, stopped Liroy Humberto Zavala (0-1) at the 1:59 mark of the first round.
Luis Vieda (1-0-1) earned his first win with a unanimous decision over Mario Padilla (3-3, 1KO) in a four round lightweight bout. Vieda was in control the whole way while Padilla tried to get in the inside the whole night but to not avail.
Flyweight Jose Estrella (3-1-1, 2KO) defeated Arturo Alvarado (0-1) in the first round.
