The current WBC lightweight champion of the world Edwin Valero has confirmed that he will be defending his title on December 19th at the Poliedro of Caracas, Venezuela.
“We have confirmed that our opponent will be Hector Velazquez who has a great career and very interesting fights under his belt. He has faced Manny Pacquaio and also his brother Bobby and Rocky Juarez among others. He will not be an easy opponent but what is important is that he comes to fight and we will be able to give a great show to those who witness the fight,” Valero stated to the Venezuelan press.
Velazquez trains out of the Cheto’s Gym located in the Zona Norte of Tijuana, MX.
Valero also used to the opprtunity to express his surprise in the difficulty in securing an opponent for his title fight.
“I am a champion and I like to give opportunites for them to come and fight against me. I don’t know why they don’t take advantage. Not everybody has the opportunity to fight for a world title,” Valero said. “First it was Antonio DeMarco who decided to fight for an interim title and then it was Jorge Barrios who decided to fight a boxer that I knocked out in the first round.”
