The President of the World Boxing council, Jose Sulaiman, announced that due to the problems that the organization’s lightweight champion Edwin Valero has experienced in securing a working visa for the United States, the upcoming bout between Tijuana, MX’s Antonio DeMarco and Jose Alfaro of Nicaragua has been deemed as an interim title fight.
The bout between the #1 ranked DeMarco and the #2 Alfaro will be held on October 31st at the Treasure Island Hotel on Saturday, October 31st.
The WBC based their decision on rule 1.27 which states that the organization has the right to approve an interim title fight in the due case that the champion can not defend his title for more than six months because of medical or legal reasons, which is the case of Venezuela’s Valero.
