Burgos Ready to Shine!

burgossmallThompson Boxing begins the month of October with its sixth installment of their successful fight card, “New Blood”.  The six fight night will be held at the Doubletree Hotel in Ontario, CA, and will feature in the main event the #1 WBC ranked featherweight Juan Carlos “Mini” Burgos “22-0, 15KO) as he measures himself against the experienced Colombian Yogli Herrera (22-11, 15KO) for the WBC CABOFE title that Burgos currently holds.  The bout is scheduled for ten rounds.

Burgos reached the contender level by stopping in an explosive 2nd round KO his Tijuana compatriot Omar “Calilla” Lizarraga last February and earning a unanimous decision over Russian Vyacheslav Gusev this past June.

“I feel blessed to keep winning and to be ranked #1 by teh WBC,” Burgos stated as he trained at the famed Azteca Gym in Tijuana’s Colonia Independencia.  “I must take whatever necessary step to reach my dream to capture a green title but in my way I have Yogli Herrera who has been in the ring with some of the toughest fighters in the division.  Everybody is dangerous at this level so I will try to knock him out and keep my undefeated record.”

The experienced Yogli Herrera has faced fighters such as Victor Fonseca, Bernabe Concepcion y Luis Cruz.  He is a tough fighter who has only been knocked out three times.  Training in Miami, FL, Herrera expects to derail the plans of the young Aztec warrior.

“I am not afraid of an undefeated record.  He has a good record but he has a lot to learn and I am ready to teach him,” Herrera stated confidently.

In the semi main event, Mauricio “Maestro” Herrera (12-0, 6KO) of Riverside, CA, goes against Cleotis “Mooki” Pendarvis (10-1-1, 3KO) om a junior welterweight contest.

Herrera has gone thru Pavel Miranda (KO5), Brian Gordon (TKO5), William Correa (TKO5), Luis Lugo (UD10) and Jason Davis (KO5) in the last ten months and against Lugo, he captured the WBC USNBC title and defended it against Davis.

“I am ready for Pendarvis,” Herrera said from the Jurupa Boxing Club.  “I am ready for the challenge and I know that ‘Mooki” is going to ask for the best of me.  He is a good fighter with sneaky power and I will be more than ready for him.”

Fleshing out “New Blood VI” will be Jonathan Arrellano (3-0, 1KO) of Ontario, CA, versus Adrian Aleman (6-5-4, 3KO) of Indio, CA, in a four round bantamweight battle while Mauricio’s younger brother, junior middleweight Alberto Herrera (4-0, 3KO) goes after San Diego, CA’s Hedi Bouaziz (1-2) in a scheduled four rounder.

Junior welterweight Emanuel Medina of Los Angeles, CA, hopes to make his debut a good one as he faces Manuel Delcid, also making his pro debut.
