“Choko” Hernandez Goes for the Title!

chokohernandezOn October 10th, Ivan “Choko” Hernandez (25-3-1, 15KO) will have his second opportunity in capturing a world title when he travels to the land of the rising sun, Japan, to challenge for the WBC super bantamweight title against the current champion Toshiaki Nishioka (34-4-3, 21KO).

Hernandez, of Mexicali but residing in Ensenda, MX, will travel to Tokyo early next week.

“We have a tough fight but the intelligence, strength and good boxing skills of Ivan will permit us to return to Mexico with the coveted green and gold belt,” Antonio “Cañas Lozada stated.  Lozada manages Hernandez.

Hernandez, 26, caputured his first title in 2004 when he knocked out Mark Johnson for the WBO super flyweight title.

“We are in Mexico City today to finalize Hernandez’s visa and then we will be back in Ensenada to continue his camp,” Lozada said.

Toshiaki Nishioka, 33, has never been defeated by a Mexican fighter and can claim among his victims no less than eight Aztec warriors: Jhonny Gonzalez, Genaro “Poblanito” Garcia, Jesus Garcia, Jose “Rayito” Alonso, Hugo Vargas, Sammy Ventura, Gerardo Martinez and Julio “Lobito” Cardona.
