Beltran: Julio is the Star, Not “Canelo”!

chavezjr2012Fernando Beltran, who heads the promotional company Zanfer and in turn the career of Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. has broken his silence in regards to the statements made by Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, up and coming welterweight from Guadalajara, MX, who has publicly challenged Chavez Jr.

“That fighter (“Canelo”) has made some statements that cannot be taken seriously,” Beltran, who resides in Tijuana, MX, stated.  “To start with, the star of Mexican boxing is ‘Julito’ and not him.  Alvarez has beaten only no names and just because of that, he thinks he can beat Julio Cesar.  ‘JUlito’ is not afraid of him but he is not going to fight with just anybody that challenges him.”

As far as the possibility of the bout actually happening, Beltran was candid with the conditions that would have to take place.

“For example, the fight would have to be at 154 lbs., Julio’s weight,” Beltran stated.  “If ‘Canelo’, who is much shorter, still wants to fight Chavez, then it is up to him.”

“I am sure that Alvarez only wants this fight for the money and not because he thinks he can win,” Beltran concluded.  “I think he just wants the paycheck.”

I don’t understand Beltran’s statements. Julio is not the star of Mexican boxing. I think JM Marquez and other would have a different opinion. Julio has not beaten any top contender or anybody known outside their families. It doesn’t matter that they were undefeated at the time. Julio has a lot to prove. His record doesn’t impress me at all. I am Mexican and I was a big fan of his father but Julio Jr. needs to beat someone of Caliber. Canelo Alvarez falls under that same situation. Beltran doesn’t know what he’s talking about. Maybe it’s just part of the Julio Jr parade he like to walk down everywhere.

I agree with Mr.Aldana, right now Julio has not fought a well known boxer. He has fought boxers that are not well knwon in the boxing proffession. I’am too, a Julio Cesar Sr. fan. He needs to demonstrate more of a fighter to fight well known fighters and not just be exploiting his father’s name. I think Canelo is good candidate to acknowledge Julio as good candidate to become pro, if he fights Canelo.

If JCC Jr is the star of Mexican boxing, Mexican boxing has gone to shit. The kid was beyond embarrassing in his last bout. There’s a reason he hasn’t faced anyone outside of those mid-west bums. Figure it out.

julio cesar is not the star in fact not everybody likes him because he fights with not that good boxers and i am not saying he es not good but canelo will beat the shit out of him….julito dont be afraid (de el suelo no pasas)

  5. Mauricio Lemos says:

Definitely Fernando Beltran is the one that doesn’t know what he’s talking about. JCC JR. is the one who’s been fighting John Does. It is obvious that it is against Jr’s interests to risk getting the shit kicked out of him. And Canelo is a guarantee to put his career on the line.
