“Lacandon” Cruz Beats Solis, Still Champion!

cruz_conectaNFIBF featherweight champion Cristóbal “Lacandón” Cruz (39-11-1, 23 KOs) of Tijuana, MX, retained his title by unanimous decision over Guadalajara, MX’s Jorge “Colorado” Solís (37-2-2, 27 KOs) on Saturday night at the Palenque de la Feria in Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Chiapas, Mexico last Saturday night.

The battle was a seesaw war as both fighters had their moments, with Cruz using his now well known style of relentless pressure although with not that much technique.  Solis tried to keep the hometown favorite at bay with jabs coupled with straight rights and then pivoting out of the way of the incoming Cruz.  Solis was somewhat successful with the tactic until he got cut with a head butt early on the bout.

The fight was full of holding and fouls as both fighters got penalized points for hitting under the belt.

Scores were 114-110, 113-110 and 113-111 for Cruz, who avenged a 2003 loss to Solís.

Also on the undercard, super featherweight Emilio Bojorquez (14-1, 11KO) of Tijuana, MX, scored a 2nd round KO over local unheralded and surely over matched Jesus “Chuy” Lopez (0-5-2).
