Jr. weltwerweight Pavel Miranda of Tijuana, MX, continues his downward spiral as he was stopped by and up and coming prospect Danny Garcia of Philadelphia last Friday night as part of ESPN‘s Friday Night Fights telecast from San Jose, CA.
Garcia dropped Miranda twice in the second round prompting the referee to stop the bout at the :56 mark of the second.
With the win, Garcia remains unbeated with a record of 13-0, 8KO while Miranda loses for the second straight time with a record of 16-4, 8KO.
In the main event, Former IBF featheright champion Robert Guerrero (24-1-1, 17 KOs) stopped late sub Efren Hinojosa (30-6-1, 17 KOs), who trains in San Diego, via eighth round TKO. Guerrero pretty much had his way with the 37-year-old veteran, who was very game until the bout was stopped between rounds eight and nine after Hinojosa suffered an arm injury. Manager Shelly Finkel confirmed that Guerrero will be challenging IBF junior lightweight champion Malcolm Klassen on August 22, 2009, from Houston, Texas on HBO. Klassen, fighting out of South Africa, has a record of 24-4-2, 14 KOs.
