Nava in High Spirits!

jackie_navaJackie Nava, the “Aztec Princess” returned with her spirits high after her devastating loss to Marcela “La Tigresa” Acuña for the full fledged WBC female super bantamweight title.

Six days after losing a unanimous decision in Buenos Aires, Nava (19-3-2, 10KO) commented about her thoughts immediately after the bout.

“We needed a little more of a strategy, she suddenly began to counterpunch, that is when her more accurate punches landed and that is what the judges scored,” the Tijuana native stated.

The official scores were 99-90, 98-91 and 98-92, all for “La Tigresa”.  Despite the scores, at no time was Nava hurt and she feels that the final rounds were in her favor.

“I think that I won the last three rounds because I was boxing more but she won the first half.  I was very aware of her power but it was harder than I thought,” Nava stated.

Acuña (32-5, 16KO) defended her super bantamweight title and holds both the WBC and the WBA versions.

It was noted by the ringside press that Nava was always competitive in the bout but Acuña bested her with her skillful defense and effective counterpunching.

“We needed to reestablish the strategy and not fall into her game plan.  She was stalking me, she was waiting for my move but I am willing to face her again.  At no moment was I hurt,” Nava said convincely.  “In other fights I have been hurt but with her I was able to take all her punches and truthfully I am ready for the rematch although I know it won’t be immediate.”

“We are going to rest but I want to be back in action soon.  We know that we made mistakes and from them we must learn but I don’t feel bad but I am not as happy as I would like to be,” she concluded.
