As of today, the three time world champion is as many weight divisions Eric “Terrible” Morales has received the blessing of the municipal administration of Tijuana to leave his current post as director of Municipal Institute of Sport that he has held since December of 2007 and concentrate on training for his upcoming return bout this July.
The 32-year-old Morales plans to depart his native city for the Otomi mountains in central Mexico to train for his run at his fourth world title, a distinction that no Mexican fighter has ever reached.
The former super bantamweight, featherweight and super featherweight WBC champion states that he does not deny the possibility of a bout against Juan Manuel Marquez this year but that no concrete plans have been made.
Before participating in a world champion bout, Morales said that he would like to fight in Tijuana against a top ranked fighter over ten rounds.
With a record of 48-6, 34KO. Morales last climbed into a ring in August of 2007 where he lost a close decision to the then WBC lightweight champion David Diaz in Chicago.
