In the main event of Thompson Boxing’s “New Blood III” Friday night, burgoswinshot featherweight prospect Juan Carlos Burgos dropped grizzly veteran Omar “Calilla” Lizarraga twice in the second round to have the fight stopped seconds later.

In what looked as a competitive fight after the first round to ringside onlookers, Burgos raised the bar in the second as he caught Lizarraga with with an overhand right that sent Lizarraga tumbling to the canvas.  When “Calilla” got to his feet, Burgos went on the attack again and this time connected with a left hook to the body and then another over hand right to the head.  Lizarraga, visibly hurt, was able to beat the count once again.  Burgos noticed that he was hurt and connected with a hard right hand which prompted the official to end the fight at the 2:19 mark of the second round of a scheduled ten.

SDFights.com spoke exclusively with Juan Carlos Burgos the next morning and he stated: “I feel good after the win.  We tought that the fight was going to go much longer.  Lizarraga can box and he has a good punch.  He hit me in the first and I felt it.  Once I saw him hurt in the second, we did all we could to finish him off,” Burgos concluded.

With the win, Burgos goes to 22-0, 15KO and captures the IBA featherweight title while Lizarraga drops to 16-7-1, 12KO.
